Managing permissions for users and groups

View and modify the access rights that users and user groups have for resources. Access rights are determined by role assignments.

Roles
Users and user groups might be assigned different roles for each resource.
Resources
Resource types are broad categories that contain resource instances. Resource instances are specific resources, such as a single portlet or page. Each resource instance belongs to only one resource type. For example, the resource instance Market News Page would belong to the Page resource type. Virtual resources are a unique resource type. Virtual resources contain the parent resources for all other IBM® WebSphere® Portal resources.
Assigning explicit roles to users and groups
Assign explicit roles to resources.
Viewing role assignments
Determine whether roles are implicitly assigned via group membership, inherited via the resource hierarchy, or explicitly assigned.
Searching
Use the search feature to search the portlet for portal resources by selecting the type of search and the appropriate search parameters. You can limit the number of portal resources that are listed in the portlet.
Configuring the User and Group Permissions portlet
You can modify the search results of this portlet by changing the maximum number of items that a search retrieves and by changing the number of items that display on a page.
